Week 6 Lecture Blog

It's the mid-way week for this semester. In former years I would of had in-semester tests this week but I was spared that and in it's place had a standard week of lectures.

I seem to be having new difficulties this year, not in terms of the difficulty of material but rather in remaining interested during some of the lectures. This week has been no exception. Although I do find some of the lectures very interesting and engaging - such as the "ELEC3360 - RF/High Frequency Electronics" which I had this morning - there are many more that while the concepts and material might be interesting as a whole it's deadly dull to attend a lecture about, and the shame is that most of the time it is no fault of the lecturer - it's just hard to make the subject matter interesting enough to retain someone's attention for either an hour or two hours at a time.

I don't envy their task!

Oh dear, well that could have gone a lot better. It's annoying when you have problems solving question you know that you can do and this was one of those occasions.

Having revised for the test - which was only concerning material that I learnt way back in the first year - I managed to completely forget most of the content that I should have known, resulting in what I predict will be a less than satisfactory performance. Luckily it's weighting within the module means that I can still achieve right up to the equivalent to a first in this module.

I have to admit that I don't really understand what the University is trying to prove with this module. So far I have not learnt anything that I didn't already have in my personal characteristics and skill set, although perhaps it is something that is lacking in other people, I don't know. True, the pointers about how to write a good CV were useful but that's about it so far. I appreciate what is trying to be done but I have to be honest I have always thought that group-work-task-solving-team-building has never been a favourite tool in a lecturer/teachers armoury for me.
