Fruit Tree Project @ The Wardrobe

Well here I go - my first attempt at a bit of a review/run down of some live music that I have been to see.

Tonight I went to see a friend's band, Fruit Tree Project, at The Wardrobe in Leeds. I have to admit that I didn't really know what to expect from the band. While I know two of the guys in the band, as well as some of their guest artists, the band could have gone several different ways in terms of the style of music. I assumed that it would be some form of Jazz and it turns out I was right.

All of the pieces, bar one, were original and written by Dave, the keys player. I'm going to disappoint any musicians and English students now by being really bad at describing the event and my thoughts about the music but I'm going to make an attempt.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, and as far as I know so did the people that I was with. The trio had a sound that was quite unlike anything I had heard before and when they asked guest artists to step up to the mark and added in some interesting instruments, that I can't name or describe, the sound of the Fruit Tree Project became truly individual.

I would recommend popping in and seeing them if you have the opportunity!

More information and some recordings of Fruit Tree Project can be found at their MySpace...
